Our Charity
sThe Joy Community School Zambia Trust
Established in 2009, ‘The Joy Community School Zambia Trust’ (registered UK charity 1132985) has been helping to advance our school’s primary mission FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN ZAMBIA AND IN PARTICULAR BY SUPPORTING THE CHARITABLE WORK OF THE JOY COMMUNITY SCHOOL, KAWAMA TOWNSHIP, NDOLA ZAMBIA. This initiative also provides a stable income for our dedicated teachers and covers vital overheads.
The government also provides a much appreciated grant.
The Trust has four trustees: Jan Moir, Barry Thomson, Andrew McDougall, and Peter Verheul. Each has visited the school so is aware of the challenges and brings different expertise.
Impact and Commitment
Through the efforts of The Joy Community School Zambia Trust and especially the teachers, we have seen remarkable progress in offering quality education.
We still have much to do including developing a feeding program and providing healthcare. New classrooms are also required.
We invite you to join us in acknowledging and supporting the vital work of the Trust, as we continue to empower our students and strengthen our school community.
Our Charity’s Impact in 5 years
1) Enrolment has steadily increased from 154 in 2018 to approximately 300 pupils in 2025. The majority come from a vulnerable background.
2) The school has recorded a total number of 79 pupils advancing to grade 8 in local government schools. Support continues by giving these children school shoes and requisites at grade 8 and 10 respectively.
3)The employment of qualified teachers has increased from 5 in 2018 to 7 in 2025 with an additional 2 non-teaching staff and a Director of Education.
4)The school has been painted inside and out to create a clean and attractive learning environment.
5)Extra desks have been purchased for the increased enrolment.
6)Extra teaching materials have been provided especially text books and a printer.
7)A new fence wall has been built at the northern end of the school which has helped to reduce trespassing especially during teaching hours.
8)The Christmas party also plays a signigant role in learning. For the majority it is the only party the children look forward to in a year. It is surprising and encouraging at the same time to see children packing their food to share with their families.
9)There has been a significant improvement in confidence and trust among the parents and guardians, knowing that the school is a safe learning space and that it provides a good education enabling many of the children to proceed to the local government secondary school.
10)In addition the school endeavours to help pupils grow spiritually and with hope for a better tomorrow
